The 2010 Excellence through Externship Project
Overview:
Excellence through Externships is a teacher and counselor work experience project. The project began in the summer of 2007 as a partnership between Palomar College and Poway Unified School District through SB70 funding. Since then, it continued as an opportunity for Poway Unified educators. The externship model places teams of counselors, career technical education teachers, and academic-core teachers out into industry. The first year the industry sectors were Arts, Media, and Entertainment; Transportation (automotive); and Health Science and Medical Technology. The following years included Finance and Business; Engineering and Design, Fashion and Interior Design (merchandising); Energy and Utilities; Health Science and Medical Technology; and Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation.
The 2010 Excellence through Externship project held June 16th-29th focused on the following three industry sectors:
- Finance and Business
- Health Science and Medical Technology
- Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation
