The first phase of construction started in Spring 2004, with anticipated completion in Spring 2007.

Mt. Carmel High School was built in 1975 and has a current enrollment of 2,546 students. The school features science labs, two swimming pools, a performing arts center with choir and drama instruction areas, and a student services building.

Projects planned at Mt. Carmel include:

  • Utility upgrade/efficiency improvements
  • Add music facility:
  • Expand/renovate library
  • Add/renovate science laboratories
  • Renovate/upgrade restroom facilities as needed
  • Modernize classrooms, such as lighting, power/data, flooring, marker boards
  • Food service/lunch shelter expansion/renovation
  • Renovate/expand staff work area
  • Renovate/expand technology/vocational facilities
  • ADA upgrades/compliance
  • Site/grounds improvements for safety compliance
  • Add/upgrade furniture and instructional equipment

Mt. Carmel’s first classroom building!

Mt. Carmel’s first new classroom complex.  Building U has eight new classrooms and two new restrooms. Groundbreaking was in May 2004, and  classes started in this new building on August 26, 2004.

Building U is a manufactured building built in the AFS Industries’ factory in Chula Vista CA. The district chose this method of delivery as it allows construction to proceed offsite, minimizing noise and disruption, and reducing costs for interim classrooms.
