Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills are important focus areas for students in the development of college and career readiness skills. One of the activities that gives students opportunities to develop these skills is participation in Robotic Clubs. PUSD has Robotic Clubs at Del Norte, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, and Westview High Schools; Bernardo Heights, Black Mountain, Meadowbrook, Mesa Verde, and Twin Peaks Middle Schools; and Canyon View, Los Peñasquitos, Morning Creek, and Park Village Elementary Schools.
Funding for robotics comes largely from our business partners, with many working through the PUSD Foundation and the Partners in Education program. This year, donations to support these clubs have totaled more than $60,000. Sponsors include Northrop Grumman Corporation, Teradata Corporation, BAE Systems, Qualcomm Inc., BD Biosciences, Sony, SAIC, ATK, CoLogiQ, Call2Recycle, Solar Turbines, General Atomics Aeronautical, Pt. Loma Credit Union, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, NASA, and Autodesk. In addition to financial support, many business partners have also provided mentors and club advisors for the programs.
A brief video will also describe the robotic programs and experiences at a national competition.
