Welcome to Online American Literature. Below you will find the course syllabus and basic classroom policies and procedures. For junior paper resources, click on the link:
Resources.
Attendance Policy: For the most part, we will meet weekly, on lab days. Because we meet only once each week, it is very important that you do not miss class when we do meet. Please arrange doctors' appointments at times when the class does not meet. On occasion, there will be assignments that necessitate us meeting, on other days. However, because of the infrequency with which we meet, it is very important that you attend class when we meet. There will always be a quiz or test on lab day, and you have only one week to make up that missing work. If you are tardy to class on lab day, you will receive detention. If you do not complete the week's reading assignment (which will be determined by quiz scores), you will lose your off campus privileges, and you will be required to come in to class every day that week. Assignment Policy: Each assignment has a due date and a due time. There is no excuse for not having your work in on time. Assignments will be posted one to two weeks in advance, so check the web site frequently so that you don't find yourself in a predicament if the server goes down. Don't forget to set your browser to save pages for 14 days-that will eliminate problems if the server does go down. All major writing assignments and projects will be due in hard copy. If you are absent on a lab day when one of these assignments are due, send your work in with a reliable friend or guardian, or e-mail me the work by the start of class and bring in a hard copy the next day you attend school. If you have an emergency, e-mail me or leave a message on my voicemail so that I can help to accommodate your situation. Discussion boards rely on your participation. This board is our form of classroom discussion. Grading Policy: Grades are determined based on point totals. 20% of your grade is based on linked assignments (assignments you complete for both U.S. History and American Literature). The other 80% comes from online and in-class discussions, written work, quizzes and tests. Your grades will be posted in the classroom approximately every six weeks and online approximately each three weeks. You can access your grades on the Course Information page at www.learningpoint.org. The following grading scale will be used: 100-90% A 89-80% B 79-70% C 69-0% F You must complete all major assignments to pass this course. If you earn a rewrite (R) on an essay, you must rewrite the paper up to C quality. The grade remains a zero in the gradebook until this happens, and your grade in the course remains an F until you complete the assignment to C-standard. Tutorial: I will be available to help you in T-20 on Tuesdays during 5th period, Wednesdays and Thursdays during tutorial, and by appointment. I check my e-mail regularly, so you can always e-mail me with a question, as well. I know this year will be challenging, but fun. I expect to learn a lot from each of you, and I hope you learn a lot from one another as well. |
