On this week's test, you will be given the word, and you will have to define it. To help you practice the words and how to use them, you need to write a sentence using each word, correctly demonstrating your understanding of the vocabulary. You 10 sentences are due on Tuesday by noon. Your quiz on all 10 words will be on lab day. All these words were taken from the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Some of them are out-dated and no longer used, but knowing them may help you understand the novel.
1. bullyrag: bully; scare someone by using force
2. Providence: divine guidance or care
3. doxology: a hymn or prayer
4. galluses: suspenders
5. heathens: people who don't believe in the God of the Bible.
6. acquit: to find an accused person innocent in a court of law
7. abolitionist: a person who worked to end slavery in the U.S.
8. Dauphin: title of the eldest son of the King of France (used between 1349 and 1830s)
9. rapscallion: rascal
10. soliloquy: a character's speech that reveals inner thoughts and ideas
