About Brit. Lit. Online

British Literature Online is developed using California and Poway Unified District Standards to teach students literature from the British Isles in an online environment. The course follows the history as the language and material develop from Anglo-Saxon times to present history and readings. Readings include such texts as Beowulf, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, Shakespeare's Hamlet, and moving on to Donne, Wordsworth, Shelley and Orwell.

Students in the online class meet twice a week to turn in assignments, along with taking tests, engaging in discussions and taking notes regarding lectures. The class is structured similar to a college environment with papers being turned in weekly and assignments being given at least six weeks in advance.

Part of the senior standards that will be given in this class include a literary analysis of Shakespeare's Hamlet, a senior speech regarding a poem or literary piece, and a virtual tour of the United Kingdom.

This particular course was developed back in 2002 by Tim Calver. Tim has a B.A .in English from Washington College and a M.S. in E-Commerce from national University.
