Wednesday December 2nd

Due in class:   (You should have read through chapter 10 by now in Frankenstein.) A TYPED response about Victor's first encounter with his creation and why Justine admits to murder is due.

In-Class: We will have a discussion of occurrences going on in the novel. Be sure you can explain the following:

  • Describe Little William's death and how he is murdered.

  • How and where does Victor see the monster for the first time? What does he realize for the first time when he sees the monster?

  • What is the new shocking news Victor receives when he gets home?

  • Why does Elizabeth admit to the murder?

  • What does Victor do to escape from his stress?

Then the second half of class we will watch the first part of the traditional "Frankenstein" movie. It is incredibly lame, the producer changed the names around, and there are an unbelievable amount of differentiations between the novel and the movie. It is so terrible that it has to be seen so that you, the reader, can begin to see how our perception of Frankenstein has changed over the years due to the awful movies created. Thanks to these movies, people to this day see Frankenstein's monster as a serial-killing psycho, as opposed to a man in desperate need for a friend and meaning in life.  In fact, most people think "Frankenstein" himself IS the monster. Wrong!

Assignments: Read  chapters 8-14 in your textbook by Monday November 14th. TYPE one page that explains some of the major differences you have observed so far between the 1931 movie and the book.
