Above: A poster lies in the background of a soldier, protecting all citizens of Oceania against the Eurasians. Depending on what week it is, however, Oceania may be at war with others, too. Orwell composed the novel as such to display how ruthless leaders adopt a type of "spin doctor" attitude, dictating what they believe the people of their country should hear.

This is a picture showing Winston at his desk, probably rewriting a section of the paper so that the Party can keep up with their ongoing historical lies. In the background would be a place to send old materials through a hole in the wall (memory holes) in order to burn them, thus erasing any record of things from the past.
