Week 20

There is one final holiday that I wanted you to get a chance to learn about. It is flag Day. If you would like to know more about Flag Day, click here.

Monday - You have two assignments today. First, during the Presidency of George Herbert Walker Bush the United States launched Operation Desert Storm to liberate Kuwait from Iraq.  You will be reading two articles from Encarta. The first is about foreign policy during the Presidency of George HW Bush. For this  reading, in 2 short paragraphs, summarize events in Panama and the End of the Cold War.
The second is about the Persian Gulf War. On Jan. 15, 1991, President George Bush sent a memorandum to his main national security advisors, outlining the goals of the coming conflict with Iraq. The president was explicit in focusing U.S. military efforts in four major areas:

bulletTo effect the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of all Iraqi forces from Kuwait
bulletTo restore Kuwait's legitimate government
bulletTo protect the lives of American citizens abroad, and
bulletTo promote the security and the stability of the Persian Gulf.

After reading about the Persian Gulf War, do you believe that President Bush achieved his goals. Be sure to address and evaluate each goal. (A-20)

Tuesday-   Bill Clinton took office in 1993 and served 2 terms as President. Today you are going to visit  The Clinton Years at CNN. You will be studying a timeline of significant events that occurred during the Clinton Presidency. For each year, choose the most significant event in the area of foreign policy. You must look at both sides of the Timeline.  After you have listed your 8 events, tell me which foreign policy event was the best success for the Clinton Administration and which foreign policy event was the greatest failure for the Clinton Administration. Be sure to explain those choices.  (A-20)

Today, you must also send me  4 questions with answers that the class will be able to answer while you present your stamp from the 1990's
 Stamp Questions (A-12)

Lab Day- Today you will present your stamps to the class. We will all be answering the questions that have been generated.

If time permits today, we will look at some of the major issues in current society by examining a variety of Political Cartoons.

Friday- Here is a Study Guide for your final exam. I will be available in class to answer any questions that you might have.

Good Luck!!!!!
