Be Sure to bring your textbook with you to class on everyday this week. If time permits, you can start working on your Cold War Timeline/Outline.

Monday -     We will begin our study of the Cold War by contrasting Cold War Terms.

Tuesday- The United Nations played a critical role in the Cold War. In order to understand the workings of this organization, visit the United Nations .  Answer the attached questions . (A-30) 
 

Lab Day-  Please note that these readings will lay a foundation for the majority of the Cold War. Start by reading a brief biography on George F. Kennan. Please read the following excerpts from the Containment Policy by George F. Kennan. As you read this document, keep in mind that it was a government telegram. The language is very choppy. It was not meant for publication.  

In your own words, read section III and summarize each of Kennans' predictions ( A-H )  regarding official Soviet actions. How does Kennan think the Soviets are going to act publicly? You may need a dictionary to help with the vocabulary. 

For section V, in your own words, summarize Kennans' assessment of the Soviet Unions strength found in points one, two, three, and four. Finally, summarize each of Kennans' five suggestions on how the United States should deal with the Soviet Union.History Social Science Standard 11.9.3   (A-30)

Bonus Question-For up to 5 extra points answer the following-  Does Kennan think the Soviets are a genuine threat to the U.S.? Why? Be specific. What did Kennan say that makes you feel that way?
