STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting Program)
- California Standards Test (CST)
The Standardized Testing and Reporting Program (STAR) is the centerpiece of California’s accountability system. The STAR is comprised of two types of tests, each with a unique purpose. The California Standards Tests measure student mastery of the California Academic Standards. They are typically untimed tests that focus of a year’s study in a particular subject area.
The CSTs for English–language arts, mathematics, science, and history–social science are administered only to students in California public schools. Except for a writing component that is administered as part of the grade seven English–language arts tests, all questions are multiple-choice. These tests were developed specifically to assess students' knowledge of the California content standards. The State Board of Education adopted these standards, which specify what all children in California are expected to know and be able to do in each grade or course.
CST scores are used for calculating each school’s Academic Performance Index (API) and adequate yearly progress (AYP). Information about the API and AYP is posted at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/ac/ar/index.asp
Accountability Progress Reporting (APR)
Reports both the state Academic Performance Index (API), and the federal Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and Program Improvement (PI).

CAHSEE (CA High School Exit Examinations)
Assistance for students and schools with the administration of the CAHSEE. Beginning with the Class of 2006, all public school students will be required to pass the exam to earn a high school diploma.
California Education Code (EC) Section 60852.3 states that students with disabilities (SWDs) are exempted from the CAHSEE requirement until the California State Board of Education (SBE) makes a determination whether or not it is feasible to have alternative means to the CAHSEE for SWDs. On July 14, 2010, the SBE determined that alternative means to the CAHSEE are feasible and directed the California Department of Education to draft regulations to extend the implementation date for alternative means from January 1, 2011 to July 1, 2012. The exemption from meeting the CAHSEE requirement for SWDs remains in place until alternative means are implemented.(http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/hs/)
