Assessment
We outsourced an assessment of our WAN and LANs to Pearson's Educational Technologies for the use of SQL and CLASSROOMxp. Phone helpTelecommunications Consultant hired to support our clients with repairs and scheduled maintenance, allowing for PUSD Telecommunications staff to work on implementation of new systems. Network AuditPUSD's network had grown immensely over the last 5 years without any time to take a breath. With all of the additional servers, network upgrades and new technologies running over the network, we decided it would be a good idea to have an independent audit of our network. We had some hiccups now and then but nothing that we could put our finger on as to why. Although we thought the network was pretty sound, we weren't surprised to learn that we had more room for improvement. We learned that with a little more refinement of our network settings we could gain considerable speed and more stability. We were also given suggestions as to future network purchases which helped us with our technology plan. We will continue to have independent audits of our network every 3-5 years. CCSVLAN Westview is our first VLAN installation. The VLAN provides added security and consistent network speeds. Westview has a robust video distribution system that runs over their network. Video needs consistent network speeds which can impact the performance of other programs on the network. The VLAN in essence separates the network giving us the ability to dedicated consistent bandwidth to each network. We also separated the student network from the administrative network. This prevents the students from being able to compromise administrative programs. SASSAS is an internationally recognized data warehousing vendor and was selected by the district because of it's expertise in this technical field as well as it's excellent outsourcing services. PUSD had 9 different antiquated phone systems that we were maintaining. We realized this was a huge burden to our Telecommunications staff and an exorbitant expense to maintain. We decided to upgrade and standardize on one system. In order to accomplish this we needed help. We hired SBC to help our staff implement the new phone system and Stellar Communications to help maintain the old systems. |
