Academy Places 1st - We The People Competition

We The People Congratulations to the Academy Eight Grade We The People Team for taking first place in the 24th annual competition at Grossmont College Friday, Jan. 14, 2012. The Academy is so proud of all of the students who participated in this competition!

Grossmont College hosted more than 350 students from six Southern California middle schools in a simulated congressional hearing to demonstrate their knowledge of the Constitution and Bill of Rights as part of an innovative educational program entitled “We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution.”

The students studied for several months to prepare for their role as experts testifying on selected constitutional issues in a simulated congressional hearing. After completing a special curriculum, students testified on constitutional issues in a simulated congressional hearing before a panel of community representatives.
