Notice: Summer Session 2010 has changed The Academy school year will begin on Monday June 14, 2010 and end on Friday June 25 (8:00am – 12:30pm). This 10 day "Summer Session" is mandatory for all returning and new Academy students. All new students, who are interested in enrolling in the Academy for the 2010/2011 school year, should attend the mandatory "Information Night" on Wednesday February 24th at 6pm in the Black Mountain Middle School Multipurpose Room (Gym). Information and applications will be distributed. A Message from the Principal Hello Academy family’s and friends – I want to take this opportunity to say how fortunate I am to be a part of such a powerful educational community as our Academy. We have created an expectation for students to give their best effort and settle for nothing less. Year after year we have demonstrated the effectiveness of our program through test scores, work our students produce, and testimonials of our students. Academy students consistently outperform PUSD students in English, math and science scores as measured by the yearly STAR test scores. We have proven that the extra time, commitment to excellence and no excuse philosophy has significantly benefited our students. Our Academy does not come without a cost however. The Poway school district funds the traditional program only. We have to raise money for our summer and extra period a day program which makes the Academy unique. We have asked our families to give a tremendous amount of financial support and you have answered by donating over $60,000 so far this school year. As great as this effort is, it is well short of what we were hoping to raise. As we finish the 2009 calendar year, we are asking for the support of those who have not donated so that we can continue to provide our Academy students with the small school, specialized attention we have been able to create. Our students have come to expect more of themselves and those adults who work with them. Help us continue to provide this opportunity for them and donate to our Academy. Sincerely, David Hall
