The Homework Matrix
Explained by Mr. Hall
With the help of all our Academy teachers we have developed a homework matrix. The purpose of this matrix
is to give both our students and their parents a general idea of how long homework should take for all grade
levels and classes. These are general guidelines. Your child might take more time or less time to complete
their work.
It is our hope that you will use this matrix to help you plan your son or daughter's day. Many of you have
multiple demands after school - sports, tutoring, volunteer activities, religious or cultural activities.
Our children's lives are busy! An important study skill is to teach them how to manage their time so that
important things (like homework) get done. Use this matrix as a tool to help teach these skills.
If your child is spending significantly more time than is recommended on homework, contact that teacher right
away. Our staff has a great deal of experience helping solve these kinds of issues. We want to challenge our
students, not overwhelm them. Working together with our parents we can make sure school remains a stimulating,
challenging and fun place for your child.
Thanks,
David Hall
