Welcome to the Black Mountain Middle School AVID Website. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. It is an in-school academic and mentoring support program for our 7th and 8th graders that prepares students for college eligibility and success. In addition to our AVID elective courses, Black Mountain believes in a school-wide implementation of AVID strategies and college readiness for all students.
May 21, 2009:: Black Mountain is applying for National AVID Demonstration Site status. We are looking forward to our site visit to show off some of the great work by our entire group of students, parents, and teachers. BMMS AVID is school wide and we have a wonderful college readiness culture.
April 17, 2009:: BMMS AVID 7th graders visited California State University San Marcos. Students enjoyed a complete tour of campus and an information meeting about specific college entrance requirements.
April 15, 2009:: College Readiness Faire: The PUSD Middle School College Readiness faire for students attending Black Mountain, Mesa Verde, Oak Valley is scheduled for April 15. Come learn about a variety of topics related to college readiness for middle school students.
