  GATE Parent Information Night

Thursday, February 25, 2010

6:00 PM in the BMMS Little Theater

Which learning environment is the most appropriate for your child? Homogeneous (all district-identified gifted students) or Heterogenous (a cluster of gifted students within a regular class). Parents are given the option each year to select either class placement for the three period basic ed block. Come find out the differences between the two environments. A lottery system will be used if there are more requests for homogeneous than spots available.

Parents of incoming 6th graders are encouraged to attend.

GATE Program Goals
The overall goal of the Poway Unified GATE program is to equip each student with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for becoming a self-actualized learner, and for leading a productive and personally satisfying life.
To do this, our site supports the following objectives to help our GATE students to achieve this district goal:

  • Provide a strong background and mastery of basic skills
  • Address individual needs
  • Develop higher level thinking skills
  • Foster a strong sense of self
  • Develop interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Engage in problem solving processes
  • Encourage enthusiasm for life-long learning
