School Safety

Student safety is a priority at Creekside Elementary. The gates will be locked daily from 9:30 am- 3:00 pm. Remember to sign in and out in the office if you are planning to volunteer or visit during the day. Please remind your children that no student may leave the school grounds during the school day without first being signed out through the office.

DO NOT leave your car unattended in any red zone at anytime. Park only in marked parking stalls. Since many of our families are located very close to Creekside, we are hopeful that children will walk to school. Parents should walk with students and cross in designated crosswalks only with an adult. A gate is located at the back of the playground to provide easy access from the park.

Safety To & From School

When walking to and from school it is important for students to follow all traffic rules. When coming to or leaving school, students should always stay on the crosswalks and sidewalks. At no time is it safe to walk or run through the parking lot. Walking Passes are a must for every student that walks home from school. At no time should students play in the front areas of the school which include the flagpole areas, cement planters, parking lot, and inner courtyard. Unsupervised playground activities should NOT occur before or after school hours.

Parking Lot Drop Off & Pick Up
With your cooperation, we are able to keep the parking lot open and the traffic flow moving to allow for student drop off and pick up. Creekside has a separate “bus loop”, which is the first drive north on Springhurst. You may load and unload in the red curb area behind the bus area. You will need to turn left when leaving the bus loop. The curb in the front of the school is painted red, for loading and unloading only. You will need to turn right when leaving the main parking lot. Double parking is not allowed for drop off or pick up.

Traffic and Parking Lot

For the safety of our children and to ease congestion, please observe the following rules:

Main Parking Lot and Bus Circle (before and after school)

• If you are accessing the main parking lot, you will only be allowed to make a right turn leaving the parking lot. If you are using the bus circle you will only be able to make a left turn out of the circle when you leave.

• When entering the main parking lot or circle, the number of cars allowed to enter will be controlled by staff. A single line needs to be maintained at all times. If the lot is full you will need to continue on Springhurst Drive. The flow of traffic cannot be backed up on the main road.

• When you enter, you will be asked to pull along the curb. Please move forward as the vehicle in front of you moves. Please do not jump ahead of a car to an empty space.

• DO NOT double park at anytime or wave your child to your car. This is very dangerous and blocks through traffic. The lane next to the curb is the only place for pick up or drop off.

DO NOT leave your car unattended in front of the school or in the bus lane at anytime. Parking should be in designated spaces only. Do not block the fire lane or gates at anytime! Tickets will be issued to cars left unattended or in the fire lanes.

Do not jaywalk at anytime. This sets a bad example for our children and is very dangerous.

Thank you to the many parents and students that are walking to school. This certainly helps. Even if you are not able to walk to school, parking away from the school and walking to meet your child/ren is often faster than pulling into the parking lot.

Bicycle Riding
Only students in grades 3, 4, and 5 may ride a bicycle to school. Children must wear a helmet, provide a lock for the bicycle, and follow safety rules/laws. A permission form, obtained from the office, must be completed and on file with the office for students who wish to ride their bikes to school. Bikes must be walked once on school grounds. No rollerblades, razors, scooters, or skateboards are allowed on campus.

Bicycle Riding Rules:

I understand that when I ride my bicycle to school, I must obey the same traffic rules that apply to cars. Here are some special rules I need to follow when I ride my bike to school:

  •  I need to be a third, fourth or fifth grader and have a signed Bicycle Permission Slip on file in the office. The permission slips are available in the office.
  • When I arrive at school, I need to walk my bike on the sidewalks and park my bike in one of the bike racks by the back cul-de-sac. Riding my bike on campus is not allowed.
  •  I need to lock my bike each day.
  •  I must wear a helmet for my safety. I can store my helmet in my classroom.

Roller blading (including shoes with built-in wheels) and skateboarding are not allowed on campus at any time.

VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS

New Board Policy 4.415 prohibits volunteers on campus until they have completed a background check and had a TB Skin Test. All visitors and cleared volunteers must report to the school office, sign-in, and wear a badge/nametag while on campus. The PTA keeps track of volunteer hours and reports them to Palomar Council. If you are planning on volunteering and have not completed the proper paperwork, please contact the Office and remember that you may not volunteer until this is completed.
