Dana's Doodlings

March 2012 message from the PTA President

Exciting Times

We just wrapped up our Scholastic Buy One Get One Free Book Fair.  It was successful for getting books into your hands and as a way for the PTA to thank you for your continued support.  The school does NOT make any money during this event.  I heard several people say they were relieved that Scholastic was back and I'm glad.  Scholastic will be back in the Fall, but I hope to invite Usborne to have a website Book Fair.  I'll be addressing that in the fall though.

On to the next program PTA has to offer -- Multi-Cultural Night and Matsiko Orphan World Choir!  The Choir will be singing as the encore event to our Multi-Cultural Night.  We'll start the evening at 5:30pm in the lunch area with a potluck.  Please come and bring a dish to share with 12 others.  The Choir will then perform from 6:30 to 7:00pm in the Multipurpose Room -- donations for the choir will be appreciated.  I know I'm looking forward to the evening!

It's also an important time for the PTA.  We are currently looking for volunteers to fill board and committee positions for the next school year.  The nominating committee has been hard at work finding people.  The positions they have found will be posted in the Multipurpose Room on April 1st.  We will be having a quick PTA Association Meeting right before Mrs. Hibbs and Dyer's performance on May 1st to officially elect the board.  If you would like be part of the board, please email us at PTACreekside@yahoo.com and let us know. We may not be aware of your desires and talents.  Then plan on coming to the May 1st meeting -- it's at 6pm and will last less than 30 minutes.

I am a little disappointed that we have to tack on to an event such as the play on May 1st to meet our quorum of 22 members.  After all, we have over 300 members.  I know we all lead busy lives, but I would think we'd be interested in what's happening at school, and be a part of the desions.  At the same time, I understand not having time to come to a meeting.  That's why we are now attaching our Association Meetings to events.  So after the meeting on the 1st to elect officers, we'll be back on May 10th to go over the budget as it stands and do some planning for next school year.  That meeting will start at 5:30pm and be over by 6pm to yield the stage to the 2nd graders singing with Mr. Lee.

Still Important...

November 30,2011 in Sacramento, The Our Children, Our Future: Local Schools and Early Education Investment Act was submitted to the Attorney General for title and summary for the November 6, 2012 ballot.

California State PTA supports this bold initiative, which will provide approximately $1,300 per student in new funds each year that must be spent directly at school sites with local parent and educator input.
