PTA GOALS and ACTIVITIES
Purpose:
- The purpose of PTA is to involve parents and staff in programs and activities that enrich the school experience for all students.
- PTA is not a fundraising organization; however, it does raise funds to support specific school programs.
- The PTA works closely with the Deer Canyon Foundation (DCF), and at the end of the year transfers all unallocated reserves in excess of $2,000 to the DCF.
Goals:
- To promote communication and cooperation between home and school through our weekly newsletter Echoes, our school directory, our yearbook, and other communication tools.
- To educate and empower parents, and to encourage their involvement in their child’s school.
- To help our students develop strong ethical values by planning programs that reinforce the pillars of Character Counts, by participating in community outreach programs such as Adopt-a-Family and Food Drives, and by responding to the specific needs of our Deer Canyon community.
- To help each child reach their goal of literacy by coordinating programs such as the Book Fair and funding our Junior Library Guild Membership.
- To promote health and wellness for our students by sponsoring sports clinics, Red Ribbon Week, Wellness Week, and the Running Club.
- To support our teachers and staff by providing volunteer assistance, an allowance for instructional materials/field trips, Room Parent coordination/training, and the Teacher Appreciation Week celebration.
- To promote a culture of inclusiveness and camaraderie by sponsoring cultural awareness programs, spirit days and programs that increase school spirit and a sense of community.
- To promote our students’ involvement in the arts by sponsoring the Reflections art program and the student choir.
- To help our students revel in the joy of childhood by sponsoring fun family events such as the Family Dance, Family Fun Night, talent shows, and interesting assemblies.
- To work closely with the Deer Canyon Foundation to meet the educational needs of our children and families.
