STAFF APPRECIATION WHAT A WEEK! WHAT A STORYBOOK
RIDE!
On behalf of all of our staff I want to share a heartfelt thanks for making
everyone on campus feel truly special and appreciated. Beyond the amazing
care, support and generosity we felt this week, it is amazing to be part of
a community where the connection between home and school is truly strong and
where we, as staff, feel as though we are working in true partnership with
you to ensure each and every child is successful. Just as importantly, it is
beautiful to be at a school where everyone -- teachers, staff, students,
community members and parents all have the same mission – to help each child
achieve their potential. Thank you, thank you, for taking us all on an
amazing journey through the world of books this past week. We very much look
forward to partnering with you for the remainder of the year.

COMPASS LEARNING PRINCIPAL'S CHALLENGE IS ON AGAIN
Just a remainder that the Compass Learning Principal’s Challenge is on
again. All students who achieve an hour a week from now until May will be
treated to a movie night on the playground under the stars with nachos.
Again, while ALL students at MRES are expected to complete a minimum of one
hour a week of Compass Learning we decided to add a fun incentive for our
students. You do not need to print out any reports or turn anything in to
school. You can, however, track your child’s progress by checking her/his
electronic backpack, which is located in the upper left hand corner, when
your child logs into their Compass Learning program.

| Whooping Cough/Pertussis The entire state is currently experiencing an epidemic of whooping cough cases which is the common name for pertussis. Whooping cough is a bacterial respiratory illness characterized by severe spasms of coughing that can last for several weeks or even for months. Whooping cough is usually spread from person-to-person through close contact with respiratory droplets released when a person coughs or sneezes. Whooping cough, which gets its name from the noise children make when they gasp for breath between violent coughs, can be deadly in infants under the age of 12 months. It is usually just an annoying illness in older children and adults, although it can turn into bronchitis or other lung infections. The best way to prevent the disease is with vaccination. Infants begin receiving this vaccine at two months of age. By the time children reach young adulthood, they no longer have the immunity and require a booster. A vaccine for older children and adults became available in 2005. Parents can protect their infants and children by checking with their health care provider to make sure that all family members’ immunizations are up to date. For the most recent local information or local immunization clinics please go to the County of San Diego Public Health Department’s Immunization website at www.sdiz.org |
