We are so fortunate to have over 400 dedicated and loyal parent volunteers at Oak Valley.  We appreciate everything you do for our students & staff each day, such as classroom assistance, Art Corps lessons, field trips, office help, workroom assistance, dance chaperones, library help, registration assistance, special treats, and many other essential tasks at our school. To show our appreciation, we have a display in the Welcome Center. Please stop by the T.V. area to see pictures and a PowerPoint presentation of our wonderful volunteers!

Oak Valley Registration Volunteers Needed

Oak Valley Registration days are August 13, 14 & 15 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  We will need several volunteers for the following shifts on these days (7:45 – 10:00 a.m. and 9:45 – noon). Our incoming sixth graders will register on August 13, seventh grade on August 14, and eighth grade on August 15. Your help allows us to provide the best possible service to all families. If you can spare a couple of hours and help us during this busy time, please e-mail Sonya Wrisley at swrisley@powayusd.com with your preferred date and time.  As an added bonus for donating your time, you will receive a front of the line pass to process your own student’s registration forms (valid at each station).

 

Writing Camps - Update
Early registration for the Teen Writers Camp (June 18 - June 29) is June 4.  The cost increases by $15 after that.  Early registration for the High School Writing Camp (July 23 – 27) is June 15.  Please mail your registration forms soon to save the late fee and to guarantee a spot.  Forms can be found on the Oak Valley web-site and at our Oak Valley Welcome Center.  Camps are sponsored by the San Marcos Writing Project in partnership with the Poway Unified School District. Contact Jeannine Ugalde for questions. jugalde@powayusd.com

 

Tennis Class

Are you interested in playing tennis? If so, please join Mr. Reisert on the tennis courts after school on Tuesday’s from 3:05 - 4:05 p.m. If you have a tennis racquet, please be sure to bring it with you to school.

 

Del Norte Color Guard Auditions

The Del Norte Color Guard will hold auditions for the 2012-2013 school year on Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30 after school from 3:45-5:00 pm.  Auditions will be held in the music building; M101.  All current 8th grade students planning to attend Del Norte next year are invited to audition and no prior experience is necessary.

SIXTH GRADE CAMP DATES

 

·         All OVMS 6th graders have the opportunity to attend the SDCOE Outdoor Education Program (6th grade camp)

·         Oak Valley will attend camp the week of October 8, 2012 through October 12, 2012

·         Cost per student: $350.00

·         On Monday, May 7th you have the opportunity to begin making payments

·         Payment options are:

o    Cash

o    Check (made payable to OVMS)

·         Cash and check payments made be made in the Oak Valley finance office M-F between the hours of 8:30 am – 3:00 pm

·         Please note: payments can be made in full, or in installments; installment payments must be at least $50.00

PUSD Youth Enrichment Program 2012 Summer Camps

Do you want to blast rockets, race solar cars, crush bridges, work with sumo robots, and launch catapults? Poway Adult School, through the Youth Enrichment Program, (YEP), is offering a wide variety of summer camps to K-8 students. There are automotive camps, Gateway Academy pre-engineering, computer aided drafting, film and audio production,  arts and crafts camps, sewing, writing, soccer and tennis, keyboarding, math, and Italian camps.

 

This is your chance to study something that really interests you or to explore something new.  No grades, no tests, just the fun of learning! Students leaving fifth grade may attend middle school camps. Gateway Academy, a 9:00–3:30, hands-on, technology based camp will be taught at Mesa Verde Middle School. Week long classes begin June 11. Last week of classes start July 2. Final Report cards – Trimester 3

The final report cards of the year will be mailed home by the end of June.  Please know that the post office does not forward mail sent out by the school district so it is very important that you keep us updated on your current address.  If we have the incorrect address in our database, your student’s report card will be returned to Oak Valley Middle School during the summer.  If you need to update your address please fill out the Residency Verification Form and return to Lynne Lesh in the Welcome Center along with two supporting documents.

6th Grade Parents: Immunization for entering 7th Grade

Parents – In order to register for 7th grade, your child’s immunizations will need to be up to date.  Specifically, please be sure your child has had two MMR’s and the Tdap Booster.   For a complete list of immunizations required please click on this link.
