Transcripts: Transcripts will not be processed during our District Recess in February. Transcripts ordered through Parchment (www.parchment.com) after 1pm on Friday, February 17, 2012 will not be processed until our return on Monday, February 27, 2012. Please plan accordingly.
Incomplete Grades: Students who received incomplete grades for the first semester, the deadline to turn in all work to that teacher is Friday, March 2, 2012. If work is not completed by then you will be given zeros for the missing assignments and a final grade will be calculated.
Naviance/Family Connection: The Counseling Department has introduced all 10th grade students to the web-based Naviance/Family Connection program. The program can be found at https://connection.naviance.com/poway. Naviance is an online tool that offers a number of features that will help students make career and college plans. Our goal was to help each 10th grade student learn about the program and develop an account that he/she can access anytime to research career/ college options and conduct post-high school planning. We are excited that all our 10th graders have learned about Naviance!
Upcoming Counseling Events at PHS
Course Registration Process: On February 28th, February 29th, and March 1st, the Counselors will be visiting all classrooms conducting thorough grade-level presentations on academic planning and the course registration process for the 2012-2013 school year. Counselors rely heavily on teacher recommendations for placement. Your student’s current academic teachers will provide placement recommendations on their course request form (CRF). Parents will be given the opportunity to review their student’s course request form at home. A parent signature is required. We are excited to include an online registration component to this year’s CRF process. In addition to students completing the hard copy CRF form, they will be required to register for classes online. We will be guiding your student through this process. The course request forms will be due March 9, 2012.
Since Counselors will be in classrooms delivering this information to students, we are unable to meet with families on an individual basis. Additionally, during March and April, Counselors will be meeting with all students on their caseload for an individual audit meeting built in to the school day. This meeting allows Counselors and students to discuss the student’s post high school goals, their interests/passions, and finalize the student’s course selections based on graduation and four year college requirements. The Counselors will help evaluate, using teacher recommendations and student input, if the course selections are appropriate and in the student’s best interest. This meeting also serves as a time to discuss summer school course programs/offerings, if necessary.
If your student has a question or concern following their classroom presentation, we encourage them to access their Counselor during break, lunch, or after school. For additional Counseling information, please visit the Poway High School website. If you have specific questions or concerns following your student’s individual audit meeting, please contact your student’s Counselor via email. We appreciate your attention to your student’s academic success. We thank you for your patience and support of our course selection process which has proven to be highly successful in the placement of our students.
