Principal's Message
Tina Ziegler , Principal

Dear Sunset Hills Families,
I hope you are enjoying these last several weeks of summer and getting geared up for a great year at Sunset Hills Elementary School! I am thrilled to launch another school year with our wonderful staff and families. As we near the start of the school year, I wanted to update you on some important information and dates to remember for August.
Classroom Assignments – Popsicle Posting Party
The class lists for all students will be posted near the gate as you enter the school on August 22nd at 4:00 pm. The PTA will be providing Popsicle treats from 4:00-5:00 pm. I will be out in front greeting all of our families during this time. The class lists will remain posted until the start of school on August 24th.
Kindergarten Meet and Greet
Kindergarten parents will be receiving additional information regarding the Meet and Greet and kindergarten schedule soon. Please save August 23rd from 9:00 am-10:00 am for you and your child to meet the Kindergarten teacher and get acquainted with the classroom.
New Student Tours
If you are new to Sunset Hills, please join our PTA for a tour of campus on August 23rd from 10:00 -11:00 am.
School Begins on Wednesday, August 24, 2011
Playground opens with supervision at 8:10 am. There will be no adult supervision prior to 8:10 am. As a reminder, the first day of school is a very busy day in our parking lot. Please plan for some extra time to either walk with your children to school, or find parking on the street. The first bell rings at 8:25 am. Children will line up behind their room numbers located on the playground.
Please join me for a “Principal Coffee Chat” in the MPR from 8:45 - 9:30 am on the first day of school. I look forward to meeting with parents for an informal talk while the teachers are getting our students off to a great start to the new school year. Coffee will be served by the generous donation of the PTA.
Dismissal will be at 2:50 pm.
August 25th is a minimum day. School starts at 8:25am and dismissal is at 1:10 pm.
Medication at School
If your child is on medication, a “Physician’s Recommendation for Medication” form must be obtained from the school, completed by the physician, and returned to the school. No medication may be given at school without this form. An adult must bring the medication to the school office in the original medication container. Children may never have medication in their possession at school. This includes aspirin, inhalers, cough drops, etc.
PTA/Foundation
Our PTA president, Shelley Porter, and our new Foundation President, Garry Burgess have been busily planning some dynamite programs and activities for our students. Please look for more information about PTA and Foundation at Back to School Night on September 1st.
Extended Student Services
Sunset Hills offers an ESS program, which is a fee based before and after school childcare program. ESS is open from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. All students planning to participate in ESS must be registered at our ESS building. Any parent wishing to register in ESS must pick up a packet at the school office or ESS building. If you have any questions, you can call ESS at 484-2982.
School Lunches
If you plan on purchasing school lunch, please note the fee increase. The current price for school lunch is $2.50.
I hope you are as excited as I am to start the new school year. It is an honor to be serving at a school site where parents, teachers and staff work so well together on behalf of our students.
Sincerely,
Tina Ziegler
