IMPORTANT REMINDERS AND UPCOMING EVENTS

MEMORIAL DAY- NO SCHOOL ON MAY 28
This Monday we will be celebrating Memorial Day. The school year will soon be over, and many people will celebrate with picnics and fun outdoors, swimming and barbecues, baseball and softball games.

That is all good and a lot of fun. However, we also want to remember that Memorial Day is a day to honor those who have died in our country’s wars, while also remembering to celebrate the freedom we enjoy as Americans. With that being said, have a wonderful long weekend with your family and we will see you on Tuesday.

THANK YOU PARENTS
Thank you for recognizing the efforts and accomplishments of ALL of our Staff on Staff Appreciation Day. The notes, kind words, posters, and fantastic lunch were definitely enjoyed by all staff. It is wonderful working in a school that has such a strong home-school partnership in which our students are immersed in a lifelong learning community.

OUR SCHOOL SUPPORTS THE GO GREEN INITIATIVE
We have adopted Peachjar to transition this summer to a paperless system for all of the enrichment and school flyers that you receive.  Peachjar puts these important papers online in a centralized location AND also gives the school back 20% of the advertising proceeds.  This innovative service helps our school at no cost to the families, staff, and parent groups.  Peachjar saves literally tons of paper, while also saving our staff a ton of time handling flyers.  Find the link to Peachjar on our Sunset Hills homepage and in our PTA newsletter. Your support and use of Peachjar will be an effective measure to save everyone time, including your child’s teacher.  It's a great idea to check out the website now, and start to get familiar with it at www.peachjar.com

If you register (it's free), you can choose to receive our school flyers via "push notification" to your smart phone.  It's that easy.  You don't have to register in order to access our school flyers on the site, but registering will provide you with additional options.  I will send frequent reminders and information during our transition to going paperless.

GET NEW BOOKS FOR SUMMER READING- BOOK EXCHANGE
The Book Exchange is being held May 31st.  The book turn in is over but you can bring in Box Tops and get a book for free.   Pick a book for every 5 Box Tops you bring to the Book Exchange store on May 31st.  (Your student’s class will still get credit toward the cupcake contest!)

We need volunteers to help with our Great Summer Book Exchange- if you can help, email Shelley Porter  at shelleyp05@yahoo.com.

SUMMER CAMP SEASON IS BACK
Poway Adult School is offering approximately 60, one week summer camps. (Please select the age level of your audience and use the appropriate information below.)

There are science, arts and crafts camps, writing, sports, keyboarding, math, and Italian camps. This is your chance to study something that really interests you or to explore something new.  No grades, no tests, just the fun of learning!  See you at camp!  For details go to www.powayadultschool.com

Camp and registration information may also be accessed through the PUSD home page (www.powayusd.com) -under “Announcements”-Youth Enrichment Program/Summer Camps.

CONTINUING STUDENT REGISTRATION
Each student who will be attending Sunset Hills next school year, must complete the registration forms.   If you have not done so already, please do so.  You will need to download the Signature Verification  form from the district websitehttp://www.powayusd.com  and turn that in.  We will have the Student Registration form available for you to review, make corrections and sign.  If you have a fourth grader next year you will also need to complete and turn in the Health Information form.  All students MUST complete the registration paperwork to continue next year. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

YEARBOOKS
Yearbook pre sales are now over!  You can still buy a copy after school on Monday, June 4th through Wednesday, June 6th.  The cost is $22.00.  The pre-ordered yearbooks will be distributed June 1st to fifth graders and June 4th to all other grades.
