Accelerated Reader

Tierra Bonita uses the Accelerated Reader program to develop your student's reading skills.

Using this program, teachers continually match a student to appropriate books at his individual reading level, called the "zone of proximal development." Having the student read at his level ensures he is challenged without being frustrated. The program consists of three steps:

  1. Students choose their own books and read them at their own pace.
  2. The student takes a quiz on the computer.
  3. Both the student and teacher get immediate, individualized constructive feedback to direct ongoing reading practice.

At Tierra Bonita, we also reward students once they reach a certain number of AR points. Students accumulate points by reading and taking quizzes and get to spin the prize wheel when they have enough points.

Many of the books you have at home are probably AR classified books! If you'd like to see the AR level of the books that your student brings home from school, click on Quiz Search below and search for the book's title. You can also search by AR level if you'd like to find other books in a given range. Tierra Bonita's online library catalog also allows you to search by AR level. On the library page, click the Catalog tab at the top. By choosing Search Reading Programs, you can search the catalog either by lexile range or by AR range to find books available for your children to check out.

To see if a book is in the Accelerated Reader program, click on the AR logo, click on "Visit Our Online Store", then "Quiz Search", or go directly to Quiz Search.
