DID YOU KNOW?
• A student who misses a day of school must work twice as hard the
next day to catch up on missed information and homework. The U.S.
Department of Education maintains that for every missed day of school,
it takes a student two days to catch up.
• A teacher loses class time by having to teach one student something
that was taught the day before. This impacts other students as well,
and valuable learning time is lost.
• The average student in PUSD misses seven days of school a year.
• If each student attends school for one more day this year, the District
would receive one million dollars.
• Parents can assist in the education of their children by getting
students to school each day, unless a child is ill.
• Since 1998 California schools are funded on actual student attendance
each day, not on enrollment. The district does not receive funding
for excused absences.
• Poway Unified’s school calendar contains fall and winter and spring
breaks. Please consider these vacation weeks for family vacations.
• Even though Poway Unified has one of the highest attendance rates
in the state, EVERY DAY COUNTS for learning and funding.

STARs reached the Stars!
Many thanks for the awesome donations made during our STARs Dinner and Auction. Over $30,000 was raised for our school with $6,000 being directly donated for new laptop computers. The funds raised will help to augment the many awesome programs we have come to rely on and our PTA and Foundation work to support (science labs, art education, music, technology, character education and so much more).
