Message from the Principal
2010-2011
Dear Families:
Welcome to Willow Grove, home of the Grizzlies! Willow Grove is a very special place to learn and I’m very excited to be your new Principal. Willow Grove students remain focused on learning under the guidance of our hard-working, passionate teachers and staff. We are proud to have our Grizzly family grow to approximately 900 students strong in grades Pre-K through 5 this school year. We recognize the contributions of time and resources from our supportive parents, and value our relationship with our business partner, Moser Orthodontics, in Verrazano.
Willow Grove is a school built on 5 Roots that are aligned with the PUSD Strategic Vision and goals. They are:
- Rigor, Relevance and Relationships
- Cultural Proficiency
- College Readiness
- Professional Learning Community, and
- State of the Art Technology.
We also practice the traits of the Character Counts! Program. Students and staff are familiar with the traits of TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS,CARING AND CITIZENSHIP. Staff models these traits and incorporates them into lessons, encouraging students to use them to make good decisions. We also encourage families to discuss and recognize these traits of character at home, reinforcing good behaviors when observed. Practicing the six character traits daily produces results in our school climate being a very safe and positive place to learn.
We are very fortunate to enjoy countless hours of participation and involvement from parents at school. Both the PTA and Educational Foundation actively support our students and staff members. We encourage families to become involved in at least one of these organizations for the betterment of our school community. We also are grateful to those of you who already have enhanced our school community in so many important ways, and are proud of the home/school relationships that have been established.
I have enjoyed meeting so many of you at school functions. We all share the same goal for our Willow Grove students, which is the heart of our mission statement:
We, the Willow Grove Elementary School community, are committed to meeting the needs – academic, physical, social and emotional – of the whole child. Our mission is to inspire and ensure learning so that each student develops the knowledge, skills, and confidence to define and achieve success in the evolving and diverse world of the 21st Century.
With Grizzly Pride!
Kimberlie Rens, Principal
