Overview of Westview for
Current 8th Grade Students
Dear Westview Class of 2016:
Welcome! You will find that we are different from traditional high schools, starting with our 4 x 4 block schedule. Students can choose to complete between 6 – 8 courses per year. The number of courses a student chooses is divided between two terms/semesters. If a student chooses to take 6 courses, they will have 3 classes and 1 period “Off Roll” each term/semester, which allows them extra study time while participating in sports, music, and other extra-curricular activities. However, many students choose to take 7 or 8 classes per year and earn extra credits toward graduation and/or college admissions requirements. The flexibility of the 4 x 4 schedule allows the student and parent to choose the appropriate number of classes for each term in high school. Course Registration
Westview uses an online program called Naviance during the course registration process. Students will be provided registration codes at a later date. Tutorials, FAQ's and more information will be posted as we near the registration period. Please check back here for updates. You may also visit our counseling website for more information on items that may aid in selecting courses.
Important Upcoming Events
The registration process includes several steps:
| March 9, 2012 |
Counselors will be at Mesa Verde, the feeder school for Westview, to present information on how to select courses. Registration packets will be distributed to the other school sites in the district with students slated to attend Westview next year or for those in an optional area. |
| March 12, 2012 |
Course Request Window Opens: Students may begin selecting their courses using the request windows available in Family Connection. Refer to the "Westview Course Registration Info Sheet" for registration codes needed to open Family Connection accounts. |
