How to Protect Our Kids from the Dangers of Synthetic Drugs

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURE UPDATE - 11-4-2011

Westview Community Members:

Now that we have begun Quarter Two at Westview I wanted to make sure you were up to speed on some of the changes we have made this year in monitoring our student attendance.

Attendance

Excusing all day absences or excusing a student who is late to school will still be handled through your students’ homeroom teacher. To excuse an absence, all you need to do is contact us at: 858-780-2000, & input the extension for your homeroom teacher. Once you have reached your homeroom teacher’s extension you can leave a message with the specific details regarding the reason for your students’ absence or tardy. Late students will be asked to have their Student ID cards scanned at the front gate, but should proceed directly to class.

To get your student out of school early for the day, we have set up a phone line in our office for you to leave a message that will let us know when you need your student released from school. To reach this extension (3060), please contact our main number at: 858-780-2000. You will be asked to provide the essential information so that we can release your student from campus for the day.

We have also received several calls on what a student should do if they are not feeling well in class. Please make sure your Westview student knows that they can request a pass to the Health Office from any of their Westview teachers. Parent phone calls will be completed through the Westview Health Office if your student is not feeling well enough to return to class.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Go Westview!

A MESSAGE FROM WESTVIEW HIGH SCHOOL

Good morning Westview Community,

On Friday morning before school, Westview, in partnership with KUSI's Prep Pigskin Report, will be hosting an alarm clock pep rally.  The rally will occur in the gymnasium from 6:15 AM - 8:00 AM.  It will not interrupt the school day or regularly scheduled instructional time.

Westview won a contest via Facebook, and is excited to be hosting this event.  As a result, your child may ask to go to school early tomorrow.  We encourage the students to arrive as early as 6:00 AM, and will have staff on site to supervise.  Please know that your Westview student may be on television as a result of attending this event.

The rally is open to the Westview community including staff, current students, and parents of those students.  If you would like to attend, you are encouraged to do so.  Please enter the gym through the main doors.

The rally will be televised on KUSI, and feature four spots at times including 6:15 AM, 6:45 AM, 7:15 AM, and 7:40 AM.  During these broadcasts, Westview will feature various facets of our school including our football team, performing groups like cheer, dance, NJROTC rifle team and others, and our student school spirit group called "The Black Hole".

Please remember that all school rules regarding conduct, behavior, and dress code apply.

Thank you, and have a great afternoon!

AUGUST 26, 2011 - ATTENDANCE - FRONT OFFICE - MY PLAN

Westview Community Members:

On Wednesday, Westview got off to a fantastic start for the 2011-2012 school year! We welcomed the United States Navy Parachute Team, the Leap Frogs into our stadium, and our Link Crew put on a fantastic orientation for our incoming 9th grade students. We know this is going to be a great year at Westview, and we wanted to bring you up to speed on a few changes we have made for the year.

Attendance

Excusing absent or tardy students will continue to be handled through your students’ homeroom teacher. To excuse an absence, all you need to do is contact us at: 858-780-2000, Push 1 for Attendance, and then input the extension for your homeroom teacher. Once you have reached your homeroom teacher’s extension you can leave a message with the specific details regarding the reason for your students’ absence.

To get your student out of school early for the day, we have set up a phone line in our office for you to leave a message that will let us know when you need your student released from school. To reach this extension, please contact our main number at: 858-780-2000, Press 1 for Attendance, and then Press 1 again to leave a message with all the required information so that we can release your student from campus for the day.

Please work with us as we navigate our way through this change in our attendance procedures.

Front Office

We are no longer able to accept any items left for student pick-up at the front reception area with the exception of student lunch money.

MyPlan

The Westview community has been chosen to beta test a new technology called MyPLAN (Poway Learning Access Network).  In this Cloud environment, you will find applications, data and other resources through a single log-in.  For parents, you will also have a one-to-many feature that will allow you to see all of your students in LearningPoint without logging out and back in.    At this point you should have received a letter from the Poway Unified School District offices with your login information.

STUDENT PUSD COMPUTER PASSWORDS
Log onto a computer at school using Novell and change it when prompted.

Log onto a computer at home and go to the URL:  http://password.powayusd.com

Explanation: Student accounts are created each year. The password is set to their birth date in the form mmddyy. They have two grace logins to change it to something unique. If they fail to change it on the third login they will be locked out of Novell and Learning Point. The problem we are experiencing is that when students log into Learning Point from home, they are not prompted to change their password and it uses up one of their grace logins. Bottom line, the third time they access Learning Point from home without having reset their password, they will be locked out and unable to log in. Learning Point Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 858 521-2790

AUGUST 8, 2011 - A MESSAGE FROM OUR WESTVIEW FOUNDATION

A Message from our Westview Foundation:

Dear Westview Parents:

Westview is one of the most outstanding public high schools in the nation. Some of Westview’s accomplishments are as follows:

  • In 2011 The Washington Post ranked Westview 253rd of all public high schools in the nation.
  • In 2009 U.S. News & World Report ranked Westview as a Silver Medal School.
  • Our API Score of 851 puts Westview as one of the top public schools in San Diego County, and California.
  • Over 1,900 AP exams were issued last school year.
  • The graduating class of 2011 was offered over $9.5 million in scholarships.
  • In 2011 Westview was recognized by California Business for Excellence in Education as an Honor Roll School.
  • Our School Newspaper and Dance Team have won national honors.

Over the past three school years Poway Unified School District has been forced to cut its budget by nearly $30 million. If Westview is going to maintain its level of excellence in these financially troubled times, it needs your support. The generosity of the Westview community in the past has enabled the Foundation to fund: extended library hours, additional library staffing during peak times, technology for the classrooms such as LCD projectors and supplies, computers, document cameras and Grade Cams, increased classroom supply budgets and Westview’s Newscast which provides visual communication to the entire student body.

While the Westview Foundation has made tremendous strides through generous donations from our Westview families, there are many areas on campus that need your support. The Foundation is still raising funds for additional needs including: upgrades to the theater and sports facilities which are utilized by the entire Westview community, upgrades to the library book collection, additional secretarial and custodial staffing during peak times, as well as additional computers and other technology upgrades.

In order to accomplish our goals we are asking for a donation of $250 per child or $400 per family. Please help to support and maintain Westview as a nationally ranked and award-winning school by making your tax-deductible donation today.

You can make your donation on-line through the Wolverine Webstore, leave it with the Foundation representative during registration, or mail it to: Westview Foundation, 13500 Camino Del Sur, San Diego, CA 92129.

Thank you for your generosity.

Visit Westview Wolverine’s facebook page for a chance to win an IPAD!

*Please contact the Foundation for larger Endowment Opportunities.

Donations of any amount are appreciated.
