Hello Westview Gold Families,
In this difficult economy, we could all use some help in paying for our Fair Share Assessment, music lessons, music trips, instrument accessories…
Here’s another fundraising opportunity that you can use to put money into your Student Account which can then be used to pay for any of the above expenses !

Pancake Breakfast at the Rummage Sale
I have tickets to our Westview Foundation’s very delicious Pancake Breakfast that will be held on Saturday, October 25 – from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m @ Westview.
Tickets are $5 & the best part….  $2 of each ticket sold by you goes into your Students’ Account !   This is the day of the Mt.Carmel Tournament – what a terrific way to start off the day with a hearty breakfast before practice & the Tournament !

Pancakes, sausage, juice or coffee (oh my !)

There is also a BOGO (buy one, get one) free dinner coupon attached for the Villa Capri 2 restaurant – yet another great bargain.

Please send me an email if you would like to purchase tickets ! – kgima@san.rr.com    Checks should be made out to Westview Foundation – please put your student’s name on the check & “Pancake” so that the proper amount can be credited to your Students’ Account.    Put it in the White Box.    I will be available on Friday night (10/10) at the Homecoming game & also at the school on Saturday (10/11) during the mini-rehearse-a-thon from noon.

To all the Westview Band Parents and Booster Board we would like to congratulate you all on another successful tournament!    One that could not have happened without the hard work and commitment of many people.    We would like to take this time to recognize some individuals whose efforts made this tournament happen.

To the Freshman parents and “new-timers” who stepped up and volunteered to lead and/or learn to lead one of the many teams who are needed to make our tournament the fantastic event it has annually become!    I would especially like to recognize Yeyint Brave, who “bravely” took on the challenge of heading up the Usher Team, Steve Henderson who volunteered to be mentored in the fine art of Signage, Karen Heaney who was welcomed into and mentored by the Concessions team, first timers Laura Gamelson and Kim Fulk to the Merchandising team, and Darius Miller who agreed to be mentored in leading the Parking team.    We sincerely hope the training you received at this year’s tournament will be put to good use in 2009!

I would also like to recognize the Tournament “veterans” who came back from last year’s event to again lead their teams in preparing for and participating in the Gold Review.    Included in this recognition are:    David Turner, who headed up the Equipment Team, Barb Alvarez, who organized the many volunteers and was responsible for the First Aid function, Randy Eskridge, who did his own share of recruiting, led the Band Dad’s AND managed to Lead the Band Gates team, Belle Chu and Karlene Blackburn who led the Tickets and VIP Badge team, Carol and Scott Farrell who came back to lead the Spectator Gate team, Sue Downs and Jennifer Wilson who took care of the Judges and mentored Chris Schumann and Sabine Schroeder, Chris Cordua who came back to drum up the program advertising AND mentor someone to do Signage, the wonderful returning team of Cary Willard and Bob Guerin who made sure we had a superb program AGAIN, the returning Registration team of Patty Carte and Josie Granillo, Dave Haigh for his excellent Parking team leadership, Stan and Karlene Blackburn for handling the finances, Joseph Taulane, who continues to support the program even though his children are now alumni, Jay Tillson who headed up Security and last, but not least, Christine Occiano, Flora Biglaryan and the Westbergs – David and Maria, who came back to head up the Concessions team!

Special thanks to Dave and Dao Abramson for facilitating the generous donation from Star of India restaurant and manning the delicious Indian food concession stand.

Many Parents, both new and returning were able to show up and volunteer their time, for that we are grateful – an event such as this one needs the hard work and commitment of parents to succeed. We hope that you will return next year to help in this very important fundraising event.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank all the Music Program students who signed up and volunteered to help – Marching Band, Instrumental Ensemble and Orchestra – the proceeds from this tournament will serve ALL Westview Music program students!

We thank the Gold alumni who showed up and volunteered their time to help support the current Westview Gold.    We also recognize the efforts of Mr. Gregg Gracey, who made the food for the Hospitality tent and Mr. Karl Fitch who performed the tournament announcing duties, and Mr. Schmidt for helping to set up the Hospitality tent and being available to turn on the stadium sound system & lights!

Well, we survived the rain and had fun doing it!!!    Thanks again to all and we hope to see you in 2009!

With kind regards,

Ron and Kathy Gima

Hello Westview Gold Families,

Wow, what an AMAZING group of students and TERRIFIC parents on our GOLD team !   You all pitched in, stayed beyond your shifts, rolled with the fickle weather and improvised whenever it was necessary.   I know there were slow periods when it seemed like a waste of time, but you all hung in there and made the best of it….   I hope you had a chance to sleep in & are soaking your feet in some Epsom salts !   I know I’ve been best friends with my Advil bottle   ;-)

Thank you to the best Tournament team ever…    you make it all so easy & you show the music community what Westview Gold style is !   I hope we can count on your support at our Percussion Tournament in March…   Thank you Mrs. Yonekura & the Mesa Verde Coaching team for the loan of the golf cart – it was a HUGE help as we transported some of our guests  (and saved me some shoe leather…)

Did you order your DVD of the Tournament ?   Buy a program ?    Both are still available…   Order form for the DVD is attached  (sorry, it prints out as 2 forms /page…)   Let me know if you want to purchase a program…

Here is our week ahead schedule from our Director, Miss Webb – please note that we will not be participating in the Poway Tournament.   The explanation is on the schedule.   Instead, we will have mini-rehears-a-thon.   Details for that are also noted in the schedule.

Booster reminders

Mt Carmel Tournament
We still have a few seats left in the block we have reserved for the Mount Carmel Tournament on October 25th.    You can place your order by sending an email to David Cole at dcole@dfcint.com.   Tickets are $9 and when placing your order a check should be made out to "Westview" and have "MCHS tournament tickets" and your student’s name in the memo.

For those of you that have ordered tickets for the tournament, David Cole will be distributing tickets this week before and after practice on Wed night.   You can meet David in front of the school by the curb where you drop off students.

We look forward to seeing you at the tournament!

Rancho Bernardo & Arcadia Tournament
Our wonderful Booster volunteer, Carol Farrell is handling the ticket pre-sale / reservations for the Rancho Bernardo Tournament & the Arcadia Tournament.   Please fill out the attached form and place it in the White Box with your check. on or before Oct 15.   This is RB’s 1st tournament hosting & the Arcadia tournament is the final jewel to our marching season….

Homecoming Football Game
Don’t’ forget, we have our Westview Homecoming Football game this Friday and we are staffing the main concession stand & the ticket booth for which we receive funds.   We also have our band performances so this will be a full evening.
Come on out & watch our undefeated Wolverine Football team ( and BTW, I heard that the halftime show is the BEST  !...   )

Hello Westview Gold Families,

It has recently been brought to the Westview Gold Music Booster Board’s attention that further explanation would be helpful to the music families about the number of fundraisers we are doing this year and in particular, the concern that parents are expected to financially participate in all of these programs.

We would like to assure all parents with this concern that you are under absolutely no obligation to buy any of the products or goods that we are offering in these fundraisers.

While we always appreciate the support of Westview Gold Music Parents in the form of your purchases or your time, please be aware that for the majority of these programs, the primary objective is to give music families an opportunity to offset the costs of participating in the music program (particularly the Fair Share Contributions). Participating in these fundraising sales result in dollar credits to your son's or daughter's Student Account. With the Entertainment Book program, just as an example, 90% of the money raised by this program goes directly into student accounts, and that money can be applied to your student’s Fair Share Contributions, as well as to other related music expenses such as lessons, reeds, strings, sheet music, music program trips and much more.

While we know you are all incredibly busy these days between family, work and school demands, what we would ask is that if you can just give a bit of your time to ask your neighbors & co-workers to consider supporting the music program through the purchase of some useful and tasty products, then you will help to ensure that the Westview Gold Music program continues to provide the quality music education & opportunities for your student this year, and in the years to come.

Your support of the music program is not only greatly appreciated, it is vital.

Westview Gold Booster Board Team

Hello Westview Gold Families,

Whew, a busy week – but what a terrific performance from our students today !

I hope you enjoyed your tasty burger & fixin’s ! Thank You Flora & all of the terrific BBQ volunteers for putting out such yummy food !

Here is the Week Ahead schedule from our Director Miss Webb.   Although there is no school on Monday, please note that there is a practice scheduled for the evening.

Tournament Updates & Reminders
We’re gearing up for our Westview Review Tournament.   Please bear with us this week as there will be many reminders about food & equipment donations.   Don’t forget to sign up and volunteer.   This is our chance to show our Westview Gold spirit & pride !   Please wear your Westview Gold Booster t-shirt, if you can.

We will have a volunteer sign-in table next to the Football stadium ticket booth.   Please check-in there to find out where you will be needed.

We have been informed that there will be a football game (another school) at our stadium on Friday night.   Therefore, we will be unable to have our pre-cleaning shift on that evening.   We will still have Concession prep activities though…

Since we have a slightly smaller tournament this year, our performances will be between 5:45 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.   We will need many volunteers for the 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. shifts as this is when the larger bands will be on campus.   Please check your schedules to see if you can help out for the later shift.   Thank you so much for giving your time & energy to this fun event !

Go GOLD !

Hello Westview Gold Families,

Rehearse-a-thon
The students have been working hard & it’s amazing to see all of the show elements coming together. This is a great group of students who are performing “outside of the box” to dazzle us with music & visuals. I encourage all parents to come out & see the performance at the end of the rehearse-a-thon & enjoy a BBQ dinner – it’s not too late to get your tickets !

Since Saturday is forecasted to be on the warm side, please help us keep your student hydrated. If you can send in a 12-pack of your student’s favorite soda or water and some fruit to share (enough for 3 – 5 people), we can ensure that they have plenty of energy to get them through this important practice session. Sunscreen is highly encouraged !

Cookie Dough Fundraiser – Date extension
We have been able to work with our supplier to have our Cookie Dough Fundraiser extended to Wednesday, October 1. I know many of you have already submitted your orders, but there are additional forms in the band room if you are interested in adding more to your Student Account.

Tournament Ads – Shout Outs & Tributes – Date extension
We are extending the date to submit Westview Review Tournament Ads, Shout-outs, section tributes or student tributes. Please submit your pictures & special messages by the end of our BBQ Dinner after the Rehearse-a-thon on Saturday, Sept 27. Forms are available on the website -www.westviewgold.org – Forms / Documents – Westview Tournament – Shoutout Form
Let’s fill our tournament program & show our Westview Gold spirit & support !
