What is Band Camp?

Band Camp is the opportunity for students to prepare for the fall marching season. Band Camp is both fun and work. In Band Camp, campers can network with other campers, sections leaders, and instructors. Band Camp is held at Westview High School and campers will learn how to march, how to play, and how to have a good time.

When does Band Camp occur?

Band Camp occurs in August during the week immediately before the start of school. The exact schedule will be sent to each camper after they register for Band Camp. However, for planning, most Band Camp days go from about 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with lunch provided. The first few days of Band Camp may be shorter without lunch.

Must every band student attend Band Camp?

No.

Only students that are taking marching band must attend Band Camp.

When should Band Camp participants register for school?

Generally, Band Camp participants should register before the Band Camp activities begin.

For most years, we try to request permission from the registration department to have our Band Camp participants register on the Monday before Band Camp, due to the conflict with Band Camp. This means, even if your Band Camp participant is not a 9th grader, they may register on this date. Our goal is to assure that all Band Camp participants complete registration AND do not have to miss Band Camp to do it.

Again, due to Band Camp conflicts with registration for school, WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ALL MARCHING BAND STUDENTS TO REGISTER FOR SCHOOL ON THE MONDAY BEFORE BAND CAMP BEGINS. Please note that 10th grade students may need to complete their vision / hearing screening on another day and time (say like 8 a.m. on Tuesday). Please check with registration each year for the exact date and time of these tests.

How can I ensure my child comes to Band Camp properly prepared?

Band Camp may be VERY HOT - so please make sure your camper comes prepared each day by wearing comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. In addition, the campers MUST:

1. Eat a good breakfast.
2. Bring water (and drink it frequently throughout the day!!!!).
3. Wear a hat.
4. Wear sunscreen.
5. Wear sunglasses

When are the Student Handbooks distributed?

The Student Handbook will be distributed during the first week of school.
