What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our organization.

How scrip generates revenue for you?
department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Westview GOLD buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount - from two to fifteen percent or more – is revenue and Westview GOLD allows 80% of that revenue to go directly to your student’s account.

Think of Scrip as substitute money.  Scrip is issued by hundreds of local and national retailers. Westview Gold purchases it at a discount which is passed on to your student account (80% of discount) and the general band fund (20%).  Families generate revenue through purchases that they would already make--groceries, clothing, toys, GIFTS, and even gas. Discounts usually range from 2% to 15% or higher!

Most scrip is in the form of the plastic gift cards that are available everywhere, so they are easily used and great for the upcoming holidays, birthdays, and celebrations. Some of the more popular cards are from:

Von's                                                                      Panera Bread
California Pizza Kitchen                                     Exxon
Best Buy                                                                Bath & Body Works
Regal Theatres                                                    Marie Callendars
Jack in the Box                                                     Souplantation
Jamba Juice                                                         Home Depot
Barnes & Noble                                                   Chili's

As you can see from the list, just about anything can be purchased with Scrip/Gift Cards. Keep some cards on hand for the stores you frequent the most.

To learn more and get detailed instructions on how to register on-line, see the Westview Gold - Getting Started Flyer (96Kb PDF file).  Upon registration you will be able to view a complete list of retailers.  Register by clicking on the link on the flier or go directly to the website at www.shopwithscrip.com. To register a new account, go to the green Family Sign Up box on the left side, and click “Create Account”. Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”
Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Organization members produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip. There are over 500 retailers to choose from.
