Lettering Criteria - Updated 5/8/08
To receive a letter, Westview Gold members must meet the following guidelines by the May 16, 2008 deadline:
| 1. | Participate in a performing group for four terms | ||
| a. | Band | ||
| b. | Orchestra | ||
| c. | Guard (two terms with marching band and two terms with Winter Guard) | ||
| 2. | Contribute through service at least twenty-five hours (twenty-five points needed). Examples of service that count towards this requirement are: (one point per hour) | ||
| a. | volunteer service at our events (one point per hour) | ||
| b. | tutoring elementary school students in music (one point per hour) | ||
| c. | Tri-M performance (two points per event) | ||
| d. | basketball pep band (two points per event) | ||
| e. | perform in the pit orchestra for our musical (10 points per musical) | ||
| f. | performance at CIF football games (five points per event) | ||
| 3. | Participate in activities that improve your individual musicianship (twenty-five points needed) Examples of activities include: | ||
| a. | take private lessons (one point per month) | ||
| b. | attend clinics and workshops offered for your instrument (5 points per workshop) | ||
| c. | be recognized for performance accomplishments | ||
| i. | All-Southern or All-State groups (10 points each) | ||
| ii. | receive Superior at S&E festival (5 points each) | ||
| iii. | receive Excellent at S&E festival (2 points each) | ||
| iv. | command performance at S&E festival (5 points each) | ||
| v. | performance at regional S&E festival (5 points each) | ||
| d. | perform as a doubler (someone who learns a needed instrument – French horn, trombone, tuba (25 points for the year – expected to remain on the instrument throughout the year) | ||
| e. | participate as a tutor for Westview Gold students | ||
| f. | participate in IMP (10 points per season) | ||
| g. | participate in Jazz Band (10 points per year) | ||
| h. | participate in school musical (on an instrument) – may be used as participation or service points (not both) | ||
Once a member letters they may earn year pins. Westview Gold members must meet the following guidelines:
- participate in a performing group for two terms (per year pin)
- contribute at least ten additional hours (ten points needed per year pin)
- participate in activities that improve your individual musicianship (ten points needed per year pin)
