Solo & Ensemble Festival Congratulations to all the students for doing such a great job! Announcement from the directors: The Solo/Ensemble Festival is on March 27th. An accompanist is being provided for all freshmen. All other students have the option of using Smart Music or hiring an accompanist. The directors have provided a list of recommended accompanists.
Parent Letter March 18, 2010 Parents, We are excited to announce our 8th Annual (started year one of Westview) Solo & Ensemble Festival held Saturday, March 27, 2010. Our festival was established in an effort to include authentic assessment in addressing Music Standard 2.0 Artistic Expression: “Students apply vocal and instrumental musical skills in performing a varied repertoire of music.” This standard includes solo and ensemble experience. Judges are hired to make constructive comments and criticism using the official adjudication forms. Often the adjudicators will work with the student(s) after the performance. This experience is invaluable. The adjudicators are selected by our music staff and are highly respected musicians and educators. From a student’s perspective these performances mean more when your parents are there to support you. From a parent’s perspective this is an event in your child’s life that you will not want to miss. Additionally, students will receive extra credit if their parent attends their performance(s) and completes the reflection form available in the performance room.
Students should arrive approximately one hour prior to their performance in order to warm up properly. All students will check in at the Theater Lobby upon arrival. Students may leave the festival once their performances are completed, but they are encouraged to support their peers by attending their performances. Please assist your child by helping them to select apparel that is professional. Athletic shoes should not be worn, ties for gentlemen and dresses and/or dress slacks for women are appropriate. No one is a winner; there is no “first place.” Ratings are given, including Superior (I), Excellent (II), Good (III), Fair (IV), and Poor (V). The rating standards are set by experienced music educators; however, the rating received is less important than the learning process that precedes the performance. In addition, a Command Performance Award may be given by the adjudicator for truly exceptional performances. Students who receive a Command Performance Award will be invited to play for the other students at our Command Performance Concert on Saturday, March 27, 7:00 pm (notice time change from Quarter III Calendar) in our Theater. All students are required to attend the Command Performance concert on March 27 unless they have a conflict which cannot be rescheduled. If there is a conflict please send an email or note.
