Commander Rick Jordan ÝTOP Commander Jordan is a 1982 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and entered Aviation Officer Candidate School in March 1983. After receiving his Naval Flight Officer wings in August 1984 he attended initial training for the F-4 Phantom II with VMFAT-101 at MCAS Yuma, AZ. Commander Jordan joined the VF-161 Rock Rivers, onboard the USS Midway (CV-41), in May 1985 and subsequently did a Western Pacific/ Indian Ocean deployment with CVW-5.
Following VF-161’s transition to the F/A-18, Commander Jordan was reassigned to the F-14 Tomcat and joined the VF-124 Gunfighters at NAS Miramar for initial training. In March 1987 he joined the newest F-14 squadron at Miramar, the Legendary Red Lightnings of VF-194. While at VF-194 Commander Jordan was selected as the squadron’s first ever Top Gun crew. However, VF-194 and CVW-10 were selected for early disestablishment in March 1988 and he was transferred to the VF-2 Bounty Hunters and deployed again to the Western Pacific/Indian Ocean with USS Ranger (CV-61) and CVW-2.
Commander Jordan transferred to NAS Dallas, TX in March 1990 serving as the VF-1170 F-14 Program Manager. In January 1991 he was assigned to the Hunters of VF-201 and served as the Schedules, Maintenance and Admin Officers. In November 1992 he transferred once again to NAS Miramar and the Devil’s Disciples of VF-301 serving as the Safety and Operations Officer. During this time VF-301 won the Noel Davis Battle “E” for combat excellence, the CNO Safety “S” and the Fighter Derby Trophy as NAS Miramar’s top F-14 squadron. Following a tour as Deputy Reserve Programs Director at Naval Air Reserve Jacksonville, Commander Jordan rejoined the VF-201 Hunters at their new home of NAS Fort Worth and served as the Maintenance and Operations Officer. During this time the Hunters won the CVWR-20 Golden Wrench Award for Aircraft Maintenance Excellence, the Noel Davis Battle “E”, the CNO Safety “S” and the Fighter Wing Atlantic Fighter Derby as the Navy’s top F-14 squadron. CDR Jordan ended his flying tour with nearly 2500 hours in Navy tactical aircraft and over 400 carrier arrested landings on nine different aircraft carriers.
In November 1998, Commander Jordan joined the staff of Naval Air Reserve San Diego serving as the Manpower Officer and Reserve Programs Director. In June 2002 he served on the staff of Commander, Naval Air Forces as the Deputy Operational Support Officer. In June 2005 he transferred to Navy Operational Support Center North Island as the Executive Officer where he served until his retirement in 2007. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) along with various unit and campaign awards. Commander Jordan and his wife Susan reside in San Diego and have three daughters, Gretchen, Lisa and Kelly and two grandkids, Kody and Ava.
