August, 2005

Hello! My name is Kara Hanes and I will be teaching Social Studies, Language Arts, Literature and PATH in room 712. I am excited about this school year.  Some of my goals for my students are to challenge my students, have them work their hardest, and maintain a positive attitude!

I wanted to let you know a little about myself. I am fortunate to have grown up in the Poway area. I attended Painted Rock Elementary School, Twin Peaks Middle School, and Poway High School. I then went on to get my BA from UCLA. While at UCLA, I was on the Women’s Volleyball Team. I had a great time there as a student-athlete. With the childhood dream of going to the Olympics, I went on to join the United States National Volleyball Team after college. I moved to Colorado Springs to train with the team at the Olympic Training Center. During my time on the National Team I traveled all over the world for various tournaments, including the PanAm games. Unfortunately, I was cut from the team six months before the 2000 Olympics. I moved back home, received my Masters degree in education and began my teaching career.  In August of 2000, my husband and I were married and we now live in Poway. Our first addition to our family two years ago was our dog Abby.   She is a pug mix and has been a lot of fun to have.  Our latest addition arrived February 3, 2004.  Luke Clay Hanes came into our lives and has been such a joy to have in our lives!!!

I am also a volleyball coach at San Diego Volleyball Club in Poway.  I coach the 18-1 team and enjoy every minute of it.  I enjoy giving back to the community that gave me so much.

I am definitely looking forward for this school year.  We are going to have a lot of fun!

Sincerely,

Kara Hanes
