MISSION  PROJECTS

Dear 4th Grade Parents and Students,

As we move into the mission period of California history we will be completing a variety of assignments. Each student will write a report (in class) covering one of California’s 21 missions. This report will include many components and will teach research skills. Each student must choose a mission to study by Friday, December 16th and have research on that mission in class and ready to use for the initial writing process by no later than Friday, January 6th.  Research should include at least one book and one internet resource.  The final copy of this report needs to be typed on a computer (those lacking a computer may choose to write theirs in ink--erasable pen is usually the best choice). While the rough draft will be completed in class, the final draft will need to be completed at home. Each child will bring home their rough draft on or before January 23rd, so that this can be accomplished. The final report and project are due in class on the morning of Monday, January 30th, 2012.

The project portion of our unit is an independent assignment that should be completed by the student with minimal help from mom and dad. Listed below are a variety of ideas to choose from. This is designed to be a fun project and should not cause any grief for the student or parents! Due to the volume of students in the fourth grade, and that all the projects are displayed in the Library for all Morning Creek students to enjoy, the size of the project is very important. Your finished project should not be any larger than 14X16 (Wall hangings may be larger). NOTHING COMMERCIAL WILL BE PERMITTED (NO MODEL KITS),AND MINIMAL PARENT HELP IS REQUESTED--IT'S THE PROCESS--NOT THE PRODUCT!!!

We are assigning the project part of the Mission Report before the Winter Break to give families a chance to visit their mission or work on the project over the break. The project due date will be the same as the final copy of the written report.

Have fun with your project and be creative.
