ADHD
Having a child with ADHD can be extremely frustrating, especially if you lack the knowledge needed to properly address their needs. The following are links and some basic information to help you with through this difficult time for you and your child.
These are some resources that you may find helpful if your child has or may have ADHD hyperactive type or inattentive type.
Children with ADHD hyperactive type and inattentive type have two major types of social deficits:
a. the inability to know what they are doing, or what is appropriate in a particular setting
b. or knowing what they are doing is wrong but being unable to control the behavior
Social skills and study skills must be taught and practiced. You may notice that your child is having difficulties in some of the following areas. It takes a child with ADHD longer to learn these skills; be patient and keep trying!
a. Friendship skills -- what friendly people do and how to be a friend
b. Conversational skills -- how to listen and respond appropriately to another
c. Verbal Conversation skills -- how to ask questions, and how to start and end conversations
d. Non-Verbal Conversation skills -- understanding gestures, tone and personal space
e. Recognizing Friendly Behavior -- reading body language
f. Joining an Ongoing Group -- how to join without intruding
g. Dealing with Teasing -- the right and wrong way to handle it
h. Managing anger -- the right and wrong ways to deal with anger
