Welcome to Park Village Elementary School and
my classroom. My name is Dennis Servetter and I will be your child's teacher for
this year. I look forward to an exciting year, and with your help, your child will
leave 4th grade having made great strides in their effort to reach his or her potential. For those of you planning to come to Back to School Night, I will be presenting a power point presentation explaining everything you need to know, A to Z, about the school year. If you are new to the school, or have missed Back to School Night, the following information will allow you to get a little better acquainted with who your child's teacher is. I come from a family of teachers and administrators with both parents having their doctorates. They are now retired after 30 odd years in the field of education and administration. My twin brother currently teaches 4th grade in the Vista Unified School District, while my younger sister and brother have been teachers in Oregon and Japan for many years. This is currently my 29th year in teaching, having received my teaching credential in 1981, from S.D.S.U. I taught 3 years in San Bernardino before coming on board with Poway in 1984. I have taught all elementary grades except kindergarten and third. Before becoming a teacher I was an after school playground leader for the City of Chula Vista and then became a volunteer aide and an instructional aide, for the Chula Vista City School District. I also served as an E.S.S. (extended student services/after school care) teacher in the San Bernardino Unified School District. I have been the Coordinator and Advisor of many different school related functions including in part the following past positions: The Spelling Bee Coordinator, Student Council Advisor, Yearbook Advisor, Talent Show Coordinator, Assertive Disciple Program Coordinator, Olympic Field Day Organizer, the Debate Team Advisor, a P.T.A. Jog-a-thon Organizer, and the Halloween Carnival Coordinator. I currently serve as a Co-Coordinated on The Disaster Committee, and have also been the 4th grade chairperson for several years helping my fellow 4th grade teachers organize many of the fun activities your child will do over this coming year. During many of my past summers I have also been a summer camp counselor and summer travel camp director, in charge of many kids and activities. I have served on the Board of Directors at my two condominium associations for 21 years combined. What does all this really mean for you. It tells you that I take my commitments, in all aspects of my life, seriously. My pledge to you is to make the commitment to give 100% to your children. Please join me in this commitment, a joint venture to benefit your child. I have him / her in my classroom six hours per day, five days a week, for nine months. By joining forces I sincerely believe we can provide for your child a tremendous academic and social year, full of growth, discovery, excitement and maturity. My half of the partnership is a promise to come to school each day fully prepared to present interesting and challenging lessons. I also commit myself to provide a stimulating atmosphere conducive to learning and most importantly, to treat your child with the care and respect every human being deserves. I will work 100% to the best of my abilities to prepare your child both educationally and emotionally for the future. I only ask that you also give that same commitment to me. Your half of the partnership involves a promise to send your child to school everyday
in a rested, well-fed, alert condition with his / her work completed, a good attitude, and
their self-esteem intact. Your child will need you to remind him / her to get enough
rest, to eat a good breakfast and to have a good day. A hug, a squeeze, a pat on the
back, can do wonders for their self-esteem! Please see to it that your children are
ready to learn, with their homework completed, and all their materials brought to school
everyday. Please talk to your children about the importance of listening, paying
attention in class (see classroom
time deductions for real class learning time), and treating all people with respect. If we both give this
pledge and commitment, the children you call your sons and daughters, and the children I
call my students, can not fail in their quest for knowledge. They can make a
difference for the future of our world.
