Dear Tireless Government Official,

          In these unsettled times it is good to remember the example of our ancient Chinese ancestors in order to help us achieve balance and order in our own lives. It is the pleasure of your Emperor, The "Son of Heaven", that each of your groups should provide a scroll that includes three (your choice of one from each of the groups below) lessons we should remember. Create an (one) informative scroll of charts maps, words, poems, diagrams, etc. on which to neatly record all three tasks. Superior work, that earns much honor, will be hist. correct and detailed and give the reader a helpful visual image of China as it clearly teaches the concepts.

Choose One:

• Explain why early China was difficult to govern and unify.
• What reasons) did they have for accepting Buddhism and how did this         philosophy/religion co-exist with other beliefs.
• What were the positive and negative results of building the great wall.

 Choose One:

• How does the system of “meritocracy” work ?
• Explain/show when, how and why a money economy rises in China.
• Produce a scroll of  major accomplishments of the Tang and Song Dynasties.

  Choose One:

• Give the pros and cons of Mongol (Yuan) rule in China
• What important decision concerning trade and communication with other cultures was made by the Qing Dynasty . Why did they do this and what was the long term result of this decision?
• How/why was China a major contributor to the establishment, maintenance, and goods traded on the Silk Road.
