Oral Presentations (Scroll Down for
Schedule) Third graders love to present what they know, and talk about their
experiences! They have been doing
informal personal sharing since school began.
Beginning in October, students will present an oral presentation, which
is one of our ways to meet the following PUSD speaking standard: Speaking
Strategies 2.0
Students deliver focused, coherent presentations that convey ideas clearly and
relate to the background and interests of the audience. Presentations
will be a required monthly homework assignment and each student will have
an assigned day to present. Students need practice in order to be prepared to
speak to the class about a topic of interest, using their own words.
Note cards with brief notes are encouraged, a visual aid of some kind
(diorama, poster) and a written report are required (one to three
paragraphs). If your child decides to
present a Power Point (Students will be learning how to use Microsoft Office
Power Point during their Computer Lab times in class), a visual aid to accompany
the Power Point is optional. Each student should
share for approximately 2 to 3 minutes. Sharing
topics can be one of the following:
Please
note: No
toys or violent subjects may be shared. Students
will need to include the following in their sharing presentation: These
are examples only. Students will be
graded on the following components:
Each child will be videotaped and posted on their webpage. Please view the video with your child and suggest ways to improve the presentation together. Students
will share once a month per the schedule below. The student audience will give compliments and constructive
feedback. I will evaluate students
in each category above. You can assist your child by helping him or her choose a
topic and organize sharing notes, and by listening and providing feedback while
he or she practices at home.
Oral Presentations will be every Wednesday beginning on October
5th. Please help your child remember his or her day of
presentation. Oral Presentation Schedule
Note:
If students are absent on their sharing day, they need to make-up their sharing
when they return to school. If students forget their sharing, it is considered a
missing homework assignment. They will need to be prepared to share the next
day. Challenge (GATE, high achieving ): Students may opt to do an additional presentation and visual aid in the subject of their choice. Write your name under the “videotaping” sign. You will be videotaped as soon as possible and will receive extra credit.
