Introduction

Did you know half of all the people in the world are women?  Did you notice that it is hard to find out about women in history?  Through this WebQuest, learn about some famous American women who helped shape history.

 

The Task

      With a friend, read about a famous American woman in history.  Then make a mobile of your American woman. Next, add your famous American’s timeline to a larger than life timeline.  Finally, interview an important woman in your life and create a timeline of her life.

Process

With a partner

 

·        You will read a biography and timeline of a famous American woman.

·        You will gather information and create a mobile of your famous American woman

·        Next you will join your class to create a class timeline to include everyone’s famous American woman.

·        Finally, you will complete an interview sheet including a timeline of a woman you know.

2.  Now together make a mobile of your famous American woman using important facts and dates found in the biography.

3.  On large mural or bulletin board paper, have the whole class make one timeline beginning approximately 1700 to present day.  Have each set of partners use different colored markers or tape to draw a line showing the life span of their famous American woman.  After each group has placed their life spans on the timeline have a class discussion.  Who was born first?  Which women could have known each other?  Which women are still alive that you could meet?

4.  Finally, each student is to interview an important woman in their life.  It could be their grandmother, teacher, or next door neighbor.  Ask questions that include dates of importance.  Make a timeline using the information and dates you got from your interview.
