PROCESS

Here is where you are going to learn the steps to completing the activities. After reading the entire process, you will need to click on the Resources button on the task bar, at the bottom of the page, to view and use the links provided for the activities. You may only use the links provided on the resources page. You do not have to use all of the websites to complete your activities. You can get plenty of information from as few as 1 site. However, I think you would benefit from searching through all of them. They are all very interesting.

Your first activity is to complete a K/W/L chart. This will be provided as a worksheet for you to fill out during your research on the provided websites. You can also view a copy of this on the resources page. There are three steps to completing this chart.

  1. First, you complete the K column. Here you will write what you already know about our solar system.
  2. Next, you will complete the W column. Here you will write what you would like to learn from your research. After this column you will explore the links to find information.
  3. Finally, you will complete the L column. Here you will write what you have learned.

Now you will need to conduct more research on the sites. You will answer the questions below, which will help you to learn some useful information. Knowing this information will make it easier to complete your project. You will be provided a worksheet that has the questions on it so that you may have the questions while you are researching. Here are your questions:

  • How many planets are there?
  • Name the planets?
  • What order are they in? Start with the planet closest to the sun and move out.
  • Name 2 other things in the solar system?
  • List the inner and outer planets.
  • What do you think is the most interesting thing you've learned and why?

The last activity is your project. For this project you will design your own planet. You will use the paragraph writing steps, that we always use ,to write out the information. This activity requires 4 things. The first three will be written in a descriptive paragraph.

  1. Tell what the name of your planet is.
  2. Describe the planet you have designed. Make sure to use a lot of details.
  3. Introduce where your planet will be positioned in the solar system.
  4. Finally, draw a picture of your planet using crayons, markers, and construction paper.
