Career
Research Project
Premise:
You have been asked to participate in a job fair at the local community college.
Your responsibility is to provide information on three different careers to
the attendees at the fair (the careers must be careers that require college
training of some sort). The local community college will provide you with
a laptop computer, a multimedia projector and a projector screen in order to
display your information. Attendees of the fair have been surveyed ahead of
time to determine what type of information they would like to see presented
to them at the fair. The type of information they want is list below:
- Career
Description -
What is this career about, what does someone in this career do, what type of
work do they perform, etc.
- What majors
in college, what types of trade schools, community college or course work
will allow you to get a job in that field?
- Are there
any high school courses you could take now to help you on your way to that
career?
- How much
money would make your first year on the job? How much would make after
you have a lot of experience on the job?
- If you had
a job in that career field describe what that occupation would be like? (Do
you work long hours, inside an office dealing with clients that complain all
day?) What might a day on the job be like.
- You will
also include information about Interest surveys near the end of your
presentation (see information below)
Use the following
web sites to help you gather information about certain careers.
Interest
Survey
- Then, in your
PowerPoint
presentation, include some information about career interest surveys and some
addresses of web sites where attendees can go in order to take them. You will
have to search the web to find some "Career Interest Surveys" that
would be appropriate. Tell them (1) why these surveys are useful, (2)
what type of information they tell and (3) why someone should use an
interest survey
- Use all of the
tools and skills you know about PowerPoint to make this presentation. You are
displaying your skills with this assignment, so do not leave anything out and
check over your presentation before you turn it in.
- Don't forget
your Intro and Conclusion Slide.
- Bullets cannot
be any longer than 4 words. Your explanations should be in your notes.
2 - 3 sentences per bullet is the standard amount.
- Rehearse and set your timings for this
presentation. Click here to
find out how to rehearse your timings.
- If you want your notes, then copy and paste
them into Microsoft Word and print them out.
