RE:
CAREER DAY ACTIVITIES
Dear
Parents:
As
teachers, we are always looking for ways to make learning more relevant to your
student and his/her future world of work. We
will spend the next month completing self-assessments, researching and learning
about careers. Mesa
Verde's Career Day is scheduled
for Thursday, May 26. It has been our experience in the past, that those students
who take this opportunity seriously, have an incredible chance to spend a ½ day
(4 hours) in the community “at work” with a profession, business, or job of
their choice. We feel this
“hands-on” experience is one that can be very beneficial in the development
of your student’s future goals both academically and professionally.
Students
will be responsible for contacting the business, making arrangements for the
“day at work”, transportation to and from the business and all other
arrangements which might be necessary. We
will assist with ideas, suggestions, and sample letters and a phone script for
use in “job hunting”.
For
those students who might need additional assistance with finding a business for
this day, we will be available to help with ideas and business possibilities.
We appreciate your support in advance to encourage and assist your student
in finding a profession, business or job to visit for Career Day so that this
day can be a valuable learning experience.
Parents, we encourage you to visit our web site over the next week to see what is included in this unit. If you’d like to come in and speak to our class about a career, we’d love to have you! If you’d be able to “host” a student for the day, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Elise Milling and
Kelly Kangas
