Elise Milling and Kelly Kangas - 8th Grade Humanities - Expectations and Policies
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at Mesa Verde Middle School. The following are policies important to a productive learning environment. Please read through these with your student so that you both understand our classroom expectations. Please sign and return the signature sheet by Friday, August 26, 2011.
Materials: A list of recommended supplies students will use in class everyday is posted on our website.
Absence Work: If a student is absent he/she must make up all work missed. It is entirely the students’ responsibility to ask for and return make-up work. Assignments must be turned in no more than one week after the student returns. No credit will be given after this time.
Additional Help: We are available most lunch periods. This will be the students’ opportunity to get extra help or to do make-up work and tests.
Web Page: Our web page contains an assignment calendar listing all upcoming due dates, student progress grades that are updated almost every week, and lots more information. Please visit our site at http://powayusd.com/teachers/kkangas/.
Class Rules:
1. Be kind. Respect all people and things. This includes not talking or doing something else when you should be listening, making fun of someone else (even if it’s joking), and all other common sense rules of courtesy.
2. Stay in your assigned seat and ready to work when the tardy bell begins to ring. Tardy results in a required detention and/or a phone call home.
3. All electronic devices must be off and stored in your bag. No exceptions.
4. Gum, food, or drinks are not allowed in class and result in a required detention.
5. Any personal item used during class will be taken away and returned in June.
6. Vulgarity or foul/disrespectful language has absolutely no place in our classroom. It will result in a referral to the office.
7. Vandalism and defacing any object in the class, including texts and furniture will result in a referral to the office.
8. When using our computers, students will be expected to follow school rules and our directions for appropriate computer use. If not, a student will lose their privileges.
9. And of course, cheating will not be tolerated. You will receive a zero, a referral to the office, and a “U” in citizenship on the upcoming report card.
* NOTE: These rules apply even in our absence.
Our goal for your child is to provide him/her with a solid foundation for high school and to foster good self-esteem. We are looking forward to an exciting year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us both via e-mail at emilling@powayusd.com and kkangas@powayusd.com.
Hope to see you at Back to School Night September 7th, 2011.
