Writing Week 5 - REVIEW of Perfect Sentences with Grammar from Weeks 1-4

Review Notes of all we've done so far...
We’ve expanded our sentences with good “fluff” : adjectives, prepositional phrases, appositives, and direct objects.

- ADJ –

·       word that describes

·       when using more than one, divide with a comma

- PP –

·       preposition and a noun

·       use comma when PP comes at the beginning of a sentence

- APP -

·       appositive renames a noun in the sentences

·       use comma to divide appositive from independent clause

- DO -

·       noun that receives the action of the verb

 

Examples:

¨   The dexterous, talented artist painted.

¨   The dexterous, talented artist, Vincent van Gogh, painted.

¨   The dexterous, talented artist, Vincent van Gogh, painted numerous masterpieces.

¨     The dexterous, talented artist, Vincent van Gogh, painted numerous masterpieces before becoming mentally ill.

HOMEWORK DIRECTIONS:

Sentence Pattern
Use all of the sentence components from pattern 1-4.  Label the following in your sentences:
    subject, verb, adjective, appositive, prepositional phrase, and direct object

The dexterous, talented artist, Vincent Van Gogh, painted numerous masterpieces before becoming ill.

ALL STUDENTS: Write a detailed paragraph on a really good cheeseburger OR a great friend.  Write 5 sentences, all that include the four sentence patterns (see above). 

All sentences must be typed and color-coded, including a key.  (see sample above)

We will collect these typed sentences instead of the spiral.  Worth 25 points!
