MAPs - Skill Practice

In preparation of our MAPs testing, we will be reviewing skills and terms that will be tested. You will be assigned a set of terms each week. You may work at home, in the classroom at lunch, or in the classroom when all other work is completed. Work at your own pace, but be honest and spend time on things that are challenging for you. Visit each site, review the skill and record your quiz score or response.

15	Main Idea	Practice and then complete ONE of the main idea statements begun in exercise #2. Record the entire statement here.
16	More Main Ideas	Print and complete exercise #3. Staple it to this paper.

18	Metonymy	Click on the link and look over the brief definition and examples of metonymy. Then, below each example, write a phrase explaining what is implied by the highlighted word(s). Remember, metonymy only works if the reader already knows the implication of the word that has been replaced. Wisconsin won its tenth game of the season. The White House announced a press conference for four o'clock Sunday. The Crown had absolute power in the Middle Ages.

34	Technical Reading: Recipe	A. What do you sift together? B. What do you think is the purpose of dipping the cutter in flour? C. How do you know when the doughnuts are done?
35	Thesis	After practicing, write a thesis sentence in response to the prompt: “Should middle school students be required to wear a school uniform?”
36	Vocabulary	Try at least 10 vocabulary terms.
