Causes of the Revolutionary War – You Make the Primary Source!

After reading textbook pages 49-53 and learning about many of the causes of the Revolutionary War, choose TWO of the causes below and create a “primary source” to represent the event.  (You must choose one with a *star*.)

 

Be creative with each.  Write and present your work like it is from colonial times…

use “proper English, sketch pictures, do not print them from the computer,

use old-fashioned looking fonts, tear edges to look worn, etc.

 

Quartering Act

Design a protest poster for this act.  Include the name of the act, one-sentence explanation for the king’s installation of the act, two-sentence description why the colonists find it unfair, and a visual that shows what colonists should do in response to this act.

Stamp Act

Design a proclamation from the king.  Include the name of the act, date instituted, three-sentence explanation from the king, list of taxed items, images to catch colonists’ attention.

Boston Massacre

Design a front cover to a local newspaper.  Include: the title of the newspaper, date and city of publication, “catchy” title of the event, picture of the event (should take up a majority of the page), two-sentence caption under the picture with details of the event and what readers will see in your picture.

*Intolerable Acts

Design a proclamation from the king.  Include the name of the act, date instituted, three-sentence explanation from the king, list of taxed items, images to catch colonists’ attention.

*Common Sense

Design a cover for this pamphlet.  On the front, include: title, author, date of publication, simple drawing to reflect the theme of the pamphlet.  On the back, include: two-sentence description of the author, quote from the document, and a two-sentence explanation of the selected quote.
