Biomes

Extinction is forever!
Animals and plants from every corner of the world face this possibility  and unfortunately, humans are to blame for a lot of the problem.
Constant development destroys resources (homes, food, and water).
Add to that natural occurrences such as fires, floods, and droughts, and the potential for disaster looms if we do not make choices NOW to protect these important areas of our world.

Your Task:
Working with a partner or in a triad (group of 3), you will be conducting research on a biome / major ecological system or your choice, and creating a presentation to convince others of the importance of your particular area and why we need to protect it.

When the research and presentation are completed, your group will be the "expert" on your topic and share it with the rest of the class.

You will have 2 weeks in class and at home to complete the project.

The Process:
1.  First, meet with your partner(s) and read ALL of the instructions on EVERY page.

2.  Once you feel comfortable with the requirements, break the task down into smaller parts and decide who will do what parts ~ everyone needs to be sharing the work.

3.  Decide the best way to get started and write down who is responsible for what part of the task ~ each person should write down what work they are responsible for.

4.  Begin your research.  You will need to save the information you gather and all your work in a safe place ~ a folder, a file on the computer / network ~ every day.

5.  After you have collected all the information you are responsible for, meet with your partner(s) and share what you discovered.

6.  Next you need to decide how you will share what you learned with the rest of the class.

7.  Again, you need to agree on who is going to be responsible for what part(s) of the presentation ~ everyone needs to be sharing the work.

8.  Create the presentation.  Be ready to share your new knowledge with the class in 2 weeks.

9.  Go to the Conclusion.  You will write a paragraph reflecting on your learning and turn this in to your teacher with your final project.

10.  Complete the group and self evaluation for this project.

If you finish before the 2 weeks, you may complete one or more of the extension activities.
